Beech Mountain is not a colder version of Boone. At 5,506 feet it is a genuinely different climate: temperatures routinely running 10 to 15 degrees below town, sustained wind that strips heat off a cover, rime ice that coats everything on the windward side, snow loads that crush covers outright, and multi-day power outages that would be an inconvenience at lower elevation and are an emergency here.
A hot tub that would run untroubled for years in Charlotte can be destroyed on this mountain in one bad February week. Every recommendation on this page comes from that reality rather than from a manufacturer's manual written at sea level.
On Beech, the failure mode is almost always thermal. Power goes out on a Tuesday night, the tub is unoccupied, the owner is in Florida, and by Thursday there is water frozen inside a pump housing and a plumbing run. That is not a maintenance lapse — it is a design and monitoring failure.
What we insist on for Beech Mountain properties: remote temperature monitoring with a freeze alarm on any tub at a property that is not continuously occupied; a cover in genuinely good condition, inspected every visit, because a waterlogged cover at this elevation is both an energy sink and a snow-load collapse risk; and a real decision each fall — the tub runs and gets serviced, or it gets fully winterized with every line blown out. Shutting it off with water in the plumbing is how equipment dies up here.
Beech has one of the densest short-term rental concentrations in the High Country, and the hot tub is frequently the amenity the listing is built around. It is also the amenity most likely to fail in the exact season guests are paying the most to be here.
We run Beech on Wednesdays, which puts service ahead of weekend arrivals and gives us a day of margin if the mountain is snowed in and the route has to shift. When roads close — and they do — subscription clients get the reschedule priority. What we will not do is pretend a route ran when the mountain was impassable; you will hear from us either way.

Yes — Wednesdays are our Beech route, and winter is when the mountain needs us most. When roads genuinely close we reschedule, and subscription clients get reschedule priority. We will always tell you when a route could not run rather than letting you assume it did.
Run it, serviced — or have it fully winterized by a technician who blows out every line. At 5,506 feet, a tub shut off with water still in the plumbing is close to a guaranteed freeze failure. The dangerous choice is the middle one: turning it off, leaving water in it, and hoping.
Assume they will happen and plan for the multi-day case. A well-insulated tub under a good cover holds usable heat for roughly a day in freezing weather, which is not enough up here. We strongly recommend remote temperature monitoring with a freeze alarm on every Beech property, and for an extended outage at an empty house the correct response is draining and blowing out the lines rather than waiting it out.

Beech gets snow loads that flatten covers outright, and a cover that has absorbed water becomes heavier, weaker and far less insulating — which then drives up heating cost and freeze risk at the same time. Cover condition is something we inspect on every visit here, because on this mountain a failing cover is not cosmetic, it is the first domino.
